Field of Sunflowers
Jul 12th, 2007 by lvbirders
Sunflowers are my favorite flower and Joshua and I love to plant a “field” of them each year. This field is really just a line of sunflowers along the backwall of our house but to us that is sufficient to bring smiles to our faces each and every time we walk out into our backyard.

The sunflowers have been blooming like mad in our recent heatwave (Beth, here’s a recent picture of Josh that I promised you :)

We noticed that we have one flower that is “special”…notice how many blooms on just this one stalk:

From top to bottom - four blooms opened up and…..

two that have not opened yet.

Beautiful!
BEAUTIFUL! James is planting sunflowers, too.
I love sunflowers! The ones that bloom all up and down the stalk are a different variety (obviously) but they are usually sold in different packets. The seed sorters must have been confused that day!
I really like your idea and hope to try it someday in my own backyard. (We’ve no yard at this time but I’ve always loved sunflowers and hoped to plant them.)
Sunflowers are my favorite too. My kitchen and dining area have a sunflower border along the ceiling and I have small dried sunflowers and 3 large fake ones scattered here and there, as well as several pictures of sunflowers from a sunflower calendar, of all things.
Your little sunflower garden is very nice. You gotta love those cheerful faces, don’t you? :)

How beautiful! We’ve never grown sunflowers, but my sis has and I’ve never seen a stalk like that!
Beautiful sunflowers! We have a row in the front of our house this year too. They do make me smile. Last year I’d planted them in our garden, and they kept getting eaten off at the tops before they could bloom, by rabbits or groundhogs!
And OH WOW, with Josh growing his hair out, the same way Nathan’s been growing his lately, they certainly COULD be twins!! Don’t you just love that golden/red hair and sweet smile?! Oh, that’s great! LOL
