Measuring Life

from The Ghost of Hannah Mendes by Naomi Ragen
“…If only they understood that life can be measured in finite quantities that were used up and couldn’t be replaced. Seconds, minutes, hours. You could calculate exactly how many were given to the average person. Twenty-four hours a day equaled 1,440 minutes times 365 days a year for, let’s say, 80 years, gave you - well… 42,048,000 minutes in a lifetime. And no more. And probably less…
I never knew it was so finite, that it could be weighed and counted and measured like diamonds. And I spent it so freely and so unwisely…. Waste, waste, and more waste… If only I had known then, I should have spent my minutes like the diamonds they were!”
My wish for everyone today is that we all see clearly every shining “diamond” moment we have to spend today.

Hi Barb,
I read your comment on Brenda’s blog where you mentioned you live in Las Vegas. I’m in far northern Ca. where, for the past 3 days it’s been 111 degrees. I saw on the news this week where Las Vegas topped 128 one day. When I saw where you live, I knew I had to come here and see what kind of crazy woman would live in Las Vegas! :)
I see that you are part of Ambleside, and I also see you visit Jewels blog, and have begun your own daily journal which is as beautiful as the ones she makes. Hmm….I may have found another “kindred spirit.” (I just finished Anne of Green Gables, lol.)
I can’t find your complete profile to read more about you. Is there some place where you tell more about yourself and family?
Well, stay cool! hee….hee….
Joanna
I came over to say I’ll let YOU keep the heat but I already knew I’d let Joanna keep the heat, too. We’re hoping to get a “cool front” through tonight.
Joanna has been commenting on my blog since almost the beginning!
I’ve added Book of Days to my “Places I Visit” list. I like to do so after people have commented on my blog and I read theirs for awhile. Good stuff…
Joanna, Welcome and thanks so much for visiting and commenting :) I started blogging to record the homeschooling journey of my youngest son Joshua who is now 13. I have 4 children ages 13, 17, 22, and 24 and each has been homeschooled at one time in their schooling. I promise to get a section up to tell a little more about our family soon. I am humbled that anyone is interested. I look forward to more “visits” with you and anyone that has been reading Anne of Green Gables is definitely a kindred spirit! :) I would love to visit if you have your own blog or such.
Brenda, unfortunately Las Vegas will “stay in the heat” so to say until October when it really begins to cool down some finally. This is the hardest time of year for me living here as I do not like the heat. On the other hand my two girls love it lol. I was tickled to see Joanna’s comment and feel grateful she “found” me through your blog. Thanks so much for adding my site to yours and for the kind comment.
