Reading about birds and this season of Advent
Dec 12th, 2006 by lvbirders
This morning Josh and I read from a book I was just recently introduced to, Stillmeadow Daybook by Gladys Taber. The book is an account of a year in New England farm life. The author has a series of similar books published in the mid 1940s - mid 1950s. I can’t believe I haven’t found this author sooner. Her stories are truly gems. This morning’s reading focused on the chapter dedicated to the month of December. I only read a section that had to do with birds but boy did I have Josh’s attention. He remarked that he enjoyed her writing but now he wanted to move to the east coast. :) I was especially taken with the following passage:
“Any living creature has such infinite fascination, once you begin to learn about it.
Sometimes I have wondered whether we don’t hate what we do not understand. And conversely, love what we know well.
This could translate to the field of human relationship too. Once we really see why anyone acts in a certain way, we are halfway to accepting it. I think Christ understood people and events with a divine sympathy and when He said, ‘Judge not, that ye be not judged,’ that was part of what He meant.”
Something to think on this Advent season as we celebrate the birth of Christ.

Wow! Something to ponder over…. hmmm. Great thoughts :)
There is a lot of wisdom here. :-)
I love Gladys Taber! I have a half dozen of her books, and read them to help keep myself in tune with the important things in this world. She was a wise and wonderful woman, indeed!
