Vietnam War Memorial Wall dedicated

 Before Josh headed out to college this morning, we read from our daily email about the dedication of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall on this day in 1982.

I brought out the POW/MIA bracelets that my mom and brother and sister and I wore during the war and a newspaper article I cut out of the paper years ago about the wall.

We did some research online about the wall and even read that there is a place to write and find out about the soldiers whose names are on our bracelets. I remember reading through the paper each day as lists of names of men were printed when the war ended and the men started returning and the sadness I felt in not seeing the name of my soldier. We will be writing and “finding” our soldiers.

In years past we have read a beautiful and moving picture book by Eve Bunting called The Wall.

I have always felt that history is stories and so stories were told this morning including those about my second cousin who served and was wounded in the war. Family being involved then makes history very personal for my budding Historian.
