Connections between Art and History

Besides his WWI readings, Josh has become interested in Napoleon and the Napoleonic Wars. I thought it interesting then to find this article on the internet this morning concerning the finding of two panels done by Fra Angelico, the Italian Renaissance master, for the high altar at the Church and Covenant of San Marco in Florence. According to the article, the main panel remains at San Marco but the frame was broken up and panels scattered around the world as a result of Napoleon’s invasion of Italy.

If Josh is into the Napoleonic wars, Superboy and I highly recommend the Horatio Hornblower DVD’s from A&E (available through Netflix). They take place during the Napoleonic wars, and although told from the English perspective, they are a great glimpse into the era of “Old Boney”. We loved them so much we bought the set!
That is amazing. :-)
