It Happened This Month…

This is the name of our “new” wall look for the school year. After fumbling through these first few weeks trying to accomplish all I need to do, I realized that our “Weekly Wall” will have to be something we turn to for our summer studies. I just don’t have the time to devote to it as I did in the summer so I have turned to a tried and true method for us.
In the past this system was called the “birthday wall” but as we have all grown a little older I felt it needed an updated name, hence, “It Happened This Month.” Each month, we will read/learn/study/discuss things as they come up during the month. We will celebrate learning about people and events on days that commemorate them.
And since there is no time like the present today we put up our first “event”.
Celebrating Constitution Day, we read about it and watched a short video available online. We reviewed the three branches of the government and began memorizing the preamble. Nothing very involved. Nothing fancy. Just a few minutes of our day and some pictures printed from the internet. I find it’s things like these that lead to many great discussions even amongst family members as they come home from school and work and see what we have “uncovered”.

What a great idea. There are so many different areas that could be covered under that one title. Thanks for sharing, I’m going to try to incorporate that into our DOK (Door of Knowledge).
Mira,
I would love to see pics of your Door of Knowledge. The name alone is fantastic! I drooled all over the place reading your blog posts about your farm pickins’. Living in Las Vegas we don’t have much chance for such. I am looking forward though to our annual run to a local orchard for apples and then making my annual apple butter.

Will you let me know if you wish to read either The Egyptian Book of the Dead or The Iliad with the Great Books Reading Partnership? I’m updating the Reading Partner list and your input would be greatly appreciated!
Blessings Abound
