Autumn Reading Challenge
Sep 4th, 2006 by lvbirders

Seasonal Soundings has announced her Autumn Reading Challenge 2006. After participating in a Summer Reading Challenge and enjoying it so much, I was excited to see this offering. I have decided to be more detailed in my autumn list than my laid back, “Just Keep Reading, Just Keep Reading”, of summer. This fits naturally into the rhythm of our yearly learning as we are more laid back in the summer and a little more structured during the fall-spring seasons. I will make out a new list for each month of September, October, and November. I have organized the reading into the following categories: Self-education, Spiritual, Classics, Light Reading/Novel, and Family Read Aloud.
My September Autumn Challenge will include:

Classics-
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne -
My daughter who is a junior at a local high school is reading this for her AP Literature & Composition class and I have agreed to read along with her to be able to discuss it with her.
Spiritual -
Rilke’s Book of Hours: Love Poems to God by Rainer Maria Rilke
Education -
Charlotte Mason Vol 1 Home Education by Charlotte Mason
For The Children’s Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay
Family Read Aloud -
The Master Puppeteer - Katherine Paterson
Light Reading/Novel -
I haven’t decided on a choice yet
Self-education -
Gilgamesh - Stephen Mitchell translation - This is the next book in my Great Books Reading Partnership group.
Mozart: A Life - Maynard Solomon
The Deluxe Transitive Vampire - Karen Elizabeth Gordon
The last two books are books I will be reading as a part of my B&N University free online classes.
Autumn is the perfect time to curl up with a good book. I think I’ll have plenty to choose from with this selection. :)

Sounds like you will be busy!My dd will be reading Scarlet Letter this year too. I remember reading it in 11th grade myself! All those “literary elements” packed into one short book!
For your novel might I suggest “Life of Pi” if you have not read that one yet?
