John James Audubon
1785-1851
As avid birders and members of our local Audubon society, this name is very familiar to us and so it was with pride that we celebrated his birthday today with the folowing:
- watching the video, John James Audubon: The Birds of America
- reading this picture book
Audubon: Painter of Birds in the Wild Frontier by Jennifer Armstrong
- and of course BIRDING :)
If you are interested in learning more about this amazing man (did you know he painted with BOTH hands at the SAME time?) here a few other picture books we have read in the past which are very good:
The Boy Who Drew Birds by Jacqueline Davies
Into the Woods: John James Lives His Dream by Robert Burleigh

Oh! I wish I had read this earlier in the day! Thanks for the heads up anyway!
